Once you have been introduced to a solidly biblical worldview in Phase 1 and are ready to make a commitment to membership in L2, you are ready for entry into Phase 2 (entry into Phase 2 is not an exit from Phase 1).
Phase 2 is an intensive assessment that will help you come to a deeper understanding of yourself. In this phase you will be given:
- DiSC assessment – this assessment will give you insight into how you typically interact with others under normal circumstances and under pressure. It will also give you insight into the behavioral styles and preferences of others based on four main types. While understanding your own behavioral style is valuable, understanding the styles and preferences of others equips you to contextualize your communication to maximize your effectiveness in interacting with others.
- Spiritual gifts assessment – this assessment will help you to understand how God has gifted you and how those gifts can be applied missionally as we seek to see Jesus' kingdom advance.
- Doctrinal aptitude – this assessment is intended to identify areas where your doctrine or theology may need to be dialed in and tightened up so that gaps in your understanding are minimized and you are better "prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you" (1Pe 3:15).
While Phase 2 is assessment intensive, there are three main areas in this phase, 1) assessment, 2) groups, and 3) education. The groups and education aspects of this phase are in support of the assessment piece. Having identified your DiSC profile, spiritual gifts, and areas of doctrine and theology that need to be strengthened, you will be able to share the experience with others in groups and address the educational needs by classes, study guides, question and answer groups, internet-based self studies, topical workshops, counseling and coaching. In the larger scheme of things, Phase 2 is likely the shortest phase. Phase 2 is the equipping phase. We will always be building on our biblical worldview. Going "on mission" is why we are being equipped.

Why is it important to "know yourself" - very simply to make you more effective in doing the work of Jesus' kingdom ("Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth." 2Ti 2:15). Without knowledge of your own communication and interaction style or the ability to ascertain the communication and interaction styles of others your communication will not be as effective. Without knowledge of your spiritual gifts, you may not be using the tools God has given you to work in his Kingdom. Without knowing where your knowledge and ability to defend the faith is weak, your effectiveness will be diminished.
Coaching and counseling are crucial and intensely personal aspects of Phase 2 that are available to all those who feel the need. As you examine your style of interacting and communicating with others, how God has gifted you, and where potential deficiencies or weaknesses might be in your theology or doctrine, you may feel the need to talk one on one with a coach or counselor. Additionally, any period of evaluation, assessment, and introspection may cause conviction or concerns to a rise in other areas of your life. These may be areas of concern in your walk with Jesus, your relationships, questions or doubts you may have, etc., L2 has trained coaches and counselors available to assist you.
Your successful completion of Phase 2 resting on the foundation of a solid biblical worldview should enhance your ability to break out of the secular-sacred split in your own thinking and give you the confidence that God wants to use you in the life he has given you i.e., in the web of social networks in which you have been providentially placed. |
